What is NLP?

NLP is like the ‘users’ manual of excellence’ for the mind, and allows us to use the language of the mind to consistently achieve our specific and desired outcomes. It is the study of the conscious and unconscious processes of the mind that combine to enable people to do what they do. The key to success is often unknown at a conscious level. Using NLP you can elicit these unknown pieces.

 

NLP stands for 'Neuro Linguistic Programming' and NLP is frequently known as the "instruction manual for your mind”. NLP looks at the way in which we think and process our thoughts (Neuro), the language patterns we use (Linguistic) and our behaviours (Programming) and how these interact to have a positive (or negative) effect on us as individuals. It is a collection of a wide range of methods and models, which create an understanding of thought process and behavioural patterns. Understanding these techniques can bring about a positive change in you and others around you.

NLP can have a positive effect on every aspect of your life. it can be used to move forward with some specific challenge or issue, or can be adopted more generically to make a difference to all areas of your life:

How does NLP work?

NLP shows you how to understand and model your own successes, so that you can reproduce them. It is a way of discovering and unfolding your personal genius, a way of bringing out the best in yourself and others around you. You may want to improve your relationships, or eliminate an anxiety, or become more creative and competent in the market place. The key pieces are not found in the muscles, but in your inner thoughts, like words or pictures, or feelings or even beliefs. Once you know these unknown pieces you can change them. NLP exercises are like thought experiments, mental exercises or a game. It explores the inner workings of the human mind; how we think, how we develop our desires, goals and fears and how we motivate ourselves, make connections, and give meaning to our experiences.

 

When you learn NLP, you learn specific skills and patterns necessary to make positive changes, create new choices, be more effective with others, break free of old habits, self-destructive patterns and behaviours, and think more clearly about what it is you want and how to get it.
